Kindness Projects
2023 marked the 40th anniversary of the restoration of democracy in Argentina and, to commemorate this, Argentine and British students worked in partnership to create teaching resources for Argentinian schools presenting “forty ways of being kind”. Written in a carefully graded accessible language for learners of English as a foreign language, students identified the intercultural competences for democratic culture that are required to be ‘kind’ and applied these to various scenarios specific to Argentine society.

Kindness as an orientation to action in intercultural language education

This article examines kindness as an ethical, relational, emotional and political orientation to action in language and intercultural education. Based on a UK–Argentina COIL case study linked to the SDGs, it identifies expressions of kindness and considers both its pedagogical potential and its limits in addressing structural inequality.
